Hauptseminar: Globale Softwareentwicklung (IN0014, IN2107, IN8901)
Kurzfassung
Software wird heutzutage zunehmend "global" entwickelt - in Teams, die über verschiedene Standorte und Länder verteilt sind. Kostenvorteile, die Verfügbarkeit von qualifizierten Fachkräften, die Annäherung an Märkte und Kunden sind nur einige Gründe dafür. Globale Softwareentwicklung bringt jedoch auch große Herausforderungen mit sich: Kommunikation wird durch Entfernung und verschiedene Zeitzonen erschwert, kulturelle Unterschiede beeinträchtigen die Zusammenarbeit. Anforderungsmanagement und Entscheidungsprozesse in global verteilten Projekten sind oft ineffizient oder führen zu Missverständnissen.
In diesem Hauptseminar sollen Probleme und Lösungskonzepte für globale Softwareentwicklung untersucht und erfahrbar gemacht werden. Seminararbeiten und Präsentationen werden ergänzt durch praktisch angelegte Übungen und Rollenspiele, die Zusammenarbeit in global verteilten Teams simulieren.

Zeit und Ort
Das Seminar wird als 3-tägiges Blockseminar veranstaltet. Termin: 9.-11. April 2015 (Donnerstag -Samstag) in Raum 01.07.014. Es besteht Anwesenheitspflicht während des gesamten Seminars.

Globale Softwareentwicklung (Global Software Engineering), einschließlich Kommunikation/Kommunikationsmetriken, Social Network Analysis, sozialpsychologische Aspekte von Zusammenarbeit in global verteilten Teams.
Aufgaben und Literaturliste
- Lesen einer ausgewählten wissenschaftlichen Publikation
- Ausarbeitung einer Seminararbeit (ca. 8-10 Seiten)
- Präsentation (30 Minuten)
- Beteiligung an den Übungen und Rollenspielen
Seminararbeit und Präsentation können wahlweise in Deutsch oder Englisch verfasst werden. (Die Literaturquellen sind englischsprachig.)

- Seminararbeit: 2 Wochen vor dem Blockseminar
- Präsentation: 1 Woche vor dem Blockseminar

Hauptseminar: Global Software Engineering (IN0014, IN2107, IN8901)
Abstract
Nowadays, software engineering is increasingly a globally distributed undertaking. Software is developed in teams which are distributed across sites and countries. Cost advantages, the availability of qualified people and the proximity to markets and customers are just a few of the reasons. However, Global Software Engineering also introduces big challenges: Communication and collaboration are impeded because of geographic distance, different time zones, and cultural differences. Requirements management and decision processes in globally distributed projects are often inefficient or lead to misunderstandings.
In this seminar we will deal with problems and solutions for Global Software Engineering. Term papers and presentations will be accompanied by practical exercises and role plays to simulate collaboration in globally distributed teams.

Date and Location
The seminar will be organized as a 3-days block course. Date: April 9-11, 2015 (Thusday - Saturday) in room 01.07.014. Attendance on all three days of the seminar is mandatory.
Topics
Global Software Engineering including communication / communication metrics, social network analysis, social psychology of collaboration in globally distributed teams
Tasks
- Reading of a selected research publication
- Elaboration of a term paper (approx. 8-10 pages)
- Presentation (30 minutes)
- Participation in the exercises and role plays
Term paper and presentation can be done either in German or in English. (Note: The literature sources are in English.)
Deadlines
- Term paper: 2 weeks before the block course
- Presentation slides: 1 week before the block course

You will get a certificate with a grade based on the following criteria:
- Content and quality of the term paper
- Content and quality of the presentation
- Attendance and active participation in the exercises and role plays
