Motivation:

In the past two years, Augmented Reality (AR) has received increasing attention, as indicated by two well-attended International Workshops on Augmented Reality (IWAR) and several other related conferences and symposia. By its very nature, AR is a highly inter-disciplinary field involving areas of signal processing, computer vision, graphics, user interfaces, human factors, wearable computing, mobile computing, computer networks, distributed computing, information access, information visualization, and hardware design for new displays. Its concepts are applicable to a wide range of applications.

This symposium continues the IWAR series of annual meetings, providing an opportunity for AR researchers from academia and industry to meet in an informal atmosphere for an exchange of ideas, concepts, and research results. ISAR is meant to trigger discussions among participants and to provide an intensive exchange between academia and industry as well as between researchers working in the different AR research branches.

Live demonstrations will be shown on thursday afternoon.

Organization:

The symposium will be held on two days, October 5-6, 2000 at the Südgebäude of the Technical University of Munich.
In addition to paper and poster presentations and live system demonstrations, ISAR will have several invited talks on applications of Augmented Reality and on activities in related fields. Live system demonstrations at ISAR'2000 will place particular emphasis on comparing different variations of tracking technology - without being exclusively dedicated to this topic.
